A Day in my Writing Life: Senta Rich

by | Apr 10, 2023 | Writing

On an ideal day (and now that my son is away at college), I wake up, exercise, get ready for the day, eat breakfast and then sit down to write at about 9.30am.

It doesn’t really matter what I’m writing, as long as I’m writing. It might be paid work, or a spec TV pilot or now, more recently, a novel.

I try to split my time 50/50 between paid and unpaid work. Sometimes, if my husband is working from home we will both work at the kitchen table together. He’s an architect. And if my son is home from college, he joins us. He’s a music producer.

I like to have a few projects on the go at once, so I’m never stuck for something to jump into should I need to. I then write until I get hungry when I’ll break for an hour for lunch. I’ll try to get out for a walk, rain or shine, and when I return I’ll write again until about 6.30pm.

I’ll have dinner with my husband and then watch TV, for work and pleasure, and then read in bed before falling asleep.

But like I said, that’s an ideal day. Life can easily get in the way. But if I can have a full week like this, or two, with few interruptions, I get into the most incredible flow.
